Dorset lawyers throw support behind Ukraine

A DORSET law firm has donated nearly £1,500 for the Disaster Emergency Committee’s Ukraine Humanitarian Appeal.

Staff at Ellis Jones Solicitors raised £720.50 to help refugees fleeing the fighting, which was matched by partners at the firm for a final total of £1,441.

The proceeds will go toward providing food, water, shelter, medical aid and essential hygiene supplies for families and individuals in Ukraine and those who have crossed the border to neighbouring countries.

Nigel Smith, managing partner at Ellis Jones, said: “Everyone at the firm was incredibly moved by the plight of people in Ukraine.

“Sadly, more horrific scenes are sure to unfold as the war continues so we are pleased to be able to join in the international aid effort and play our part in helping to alleviate the suffering of those worst affected.

“Many thanks to everyone who has supported our fundraising efforts, including our many staff and clients. Their donations will help to save lives.”

Funds were raised through various internal competitions and activities as well as promotion on social media and collection pots at all of Ellis Jones’ six offices on the south coast and in London.

According to the DEC, £30 provides essential hygiene supplies for three people for one month; £50 provides blankets for four families; and £100 provides emergency good for two families for one month. That means Ellis Jones’ donation could provide emergency food for 30 families for a month.

Ellis Jones has more than 170 staff, including 21 partners.
