Hall & Woodhouse raises over £600,000 to enrich its local communities

Hall & Woodhouse | Press Release • Mar 17, 2023

Through a series of fundraising and direct giving, Hall & Woodhouse has raised over half a million pounds for its local communities and charitable organisations

Family brewers, Hall & Woodhouse (H&W), raised over £600,000 for charities and local good causes in 2022 through a mix of fundraising events, challenges, direct giving from the business, and implementing local initiatives at each of its pubs across the south.

This achievement has set the independent brewer on track for reaching its goal of raising £1million per annum for charities and good causes within its local communities by 2027. Additionally, in recognition of last year’s fundraising and giving success, H&W was awarded the Corporate Community Hero Award from the All Party Parliamentary Beer Group.

Anthony Woodhouse, Chairman of Hall & Woodhouse, said: “Giving back to the community and using our own resources to directly enrich the areas where our pubs are located, is at the centre of Hall & Woodhouse’s ambitions as a company. We are so proud and grateful to all our team members, without them coming together and working as one, none of this would have been possible.

“Continuing to support causes like the Ukraine crisis and the NHS and our invaluable emergency services through our direct giving, is a huge part of our company purpose, as well as raising funds for our local charitable organisations. The past year’s achievement has given us confidence in our aims to raise £1million of vital funds each year for good causes by 2027.”

H&W was the headline sponsor of the three-day family-friendly festival, Teddy Rocks, providing the vital funds needed to run the event last spring. In addition, with team members volunteering their time for free to run the bars over the festival weekend, H&W donated all profits to the children’s cancer charity, Teddy20. In total, H&W contributed nearly £100,000 to the event.

H&W team member, Jon Mead, raised over £1,000 last summer for Dorset Mind and Sport in Mind, when he embarked upon the first leg of his ‘Dorset Double Challenge’. Jon cycled to all 51 of H&W’s Dorset pubs in one day, covering a total of 343km.

The H&W Dorset Beer Festival, held at the Brewery in June 2022, donated one hundred percent of all its proceeds to the mental health and wellbeing charity, Dorset Mind, raising over £13,000.

Additionally, a series of direct giving from the business contributed to H&W’s total raised sum for 2022. In March, H&W donated half a day’s profits from its pubs, which totalled more than £60,000, to support the Ukraine Crisis Appeal. The brewer also introduced the Blue Light Card initiative across its pub estate to allow staff from the NHS, armed forces, and emergency services to access an exclusive discount as a way of giving back to these vital services.

More recently, H&W’s long established, annual Community Chest Awards provided £50,000 of grants to more than 35 charities in the south. To date, the Hall & Woodhouse Community Chest has donated over £760,000 to more than 850 causes across the south of England.
