Passenger named ‘Independent Business of the Year’ at Bournemouth Business Awards

UK public transport and website provider, Passenger has been awarded ‘Independent Business of the Year’ at the 2022 Bournemouth Business Awards.

The accolade marks another milestone in Passenger’s growth journey since launching in 2015. The business arose from CEO Tom Quay’s strong belief in sustainability, and that public transport could serve as a vital resource to reduce our carbon footprint. Passenger’s easy-to-use apps and websites, which provide seamless journey planning and digital ticketing features to public transport  users are now used by 84 UK bus operators, making up approximately 24% of the UK bus market.

Matt Lawrence, Head of Marketing at Passenger, commented: “We are delighted to have been recognised as ‘Independent Business of the Year’ at the Bournemouth Business Awards. We’re proud to see our innovative technology solutions play a part in increasing the accessibility of public transport nationwide, inspiring people across the UK to make public transport their first choice. It’s also great to see our local impact as we continue working with Yellow Buses, moreBus, and UNIBUS, and knowing that we’ve been able to improve journey planning for thousands of resident, student and visitor travellers.

“The award is testament to our business growth and the exceptional work of our committed team. We all share a belief in improving public transport services to inspire a greener future. We’re looking forward to seeing what the next year has in store for us and building on this success.”

Passenger’s continuous improvements and innovations has contributed to a 48% increase in annual turnover between 2020 and 2021. Among its most recent launches are a discount code capability to help operators to run promotions and offers, and a contactless journeys overview to allow passengers to easily track past journeys made through ‘Tap On, Tap Off’ payments.

Passenger’s win at the Bournemouth Business Awards builds on its growing awards portfolio, as the company won the ‘Dorset Cluster’ Award at the 2021 Tech South West Awards and its multi-operator app, myTrip app took home ‘Travel App of the Year’ at the UK App Awards 2021.
