The Black History Month Roadshow comes to the Dolphin Centre

The “Africa comes to Bournemouth” celebration of African and Caribbean culture will take over Poole this October to host its first roadshow in partnership with the Dolphin Centre.

Free workshops, events, exhibitions, and activities will take place in GATHER on Saturday 8th, Saturday 15th and Sunday 30th October to celebrate Black History Month. The public is invited to enjoy African drumming, street dance workshops and spoken word poetry. Guest hosts and speakers include Ras Bushy, Alima Jalloh North and Bob Povey.

Carmen Moore, Community Manager at the Dolphin Centre, said: “As part of our carefully curated schedule of events this year, we are passionate about supporting Black History Month, to champion black culture and educate the local community. Black History Month is all about advocating the hardship that the black community has faced over hundreds of years, while also celebrating those who have overcome the challenges that came with this. It’s important that as a community we come together to take the time to learn from our diverse ancestry so that we can take genuine action, and make vital changes to the world we live in.”

African products will be on sale at the Dolphin Street Market on Saturday 8th, Saturday 15th and Sunday 30th October, including Caribbean and African Street food, hair and beauty products, and Afro-Caribbean arts & craft stalls.

On these dates there will also be live acoustic performances, dancing, and authentic street food in KINGLAND.
