Bournemouth businesses shake up town’s restaurant scene with new opening

Kumpi, a Bournemouth-based baked potato brand has teamed up with local interior design company, KTM Design to bring a trendy new restaurant to the heart of the town.

KTM Design has worked with Kumpi to open its first-ever restaurant on Old Christchurch Road, following the success of its existing takeaway business.

Kumpi offers twists on the classic British baked potato, with a range of unique filling combinations including smoked tofu, falafel, and lemon & green chilli chicken thigh. Founders Onur Guvenc and Ozan Kulaksiz first launched Kumpi as a takeaway service In December 2020, with the aim of providing the ultimate at-home dining experience with innovative baked potato dishes.

Onur Guvenc commented: “Our core promise is to offer next-level baked potatoes, turning a classic British staple into a deliciously unique and exciting dish for everyone to enjoy. Our takeaway service has proven a hit with customers so far despite us launching in one of the most challenging periods for the hospitality sector, with our sales figures doubling month-on-month since April. Building on this success, we’re expecting to serve over 1,750 customers per week with our new restaurant. Its launch marks the next exciting step in our business growth journey as we look to expand nationwide in the future.”

Katie Thomas, founder of KTM Design commented: “In the spirit of championing a staple in British culture, we decided to opt for an industrial theme throughout Kumpi’s interiors – a style which remains a timeless classic in interior design. We went for a look which celebrates practicality but also draws attention with pops of colour for a bold contrast.

“We’ve used matt black and bold yellow accents as key colours, adding industrial textures with a raw concrete effect, black timber slats and distressed timber and upholstery. One of the signature elements we love is a portrait of Her Majesty aptly positioned next to Kumpi’s ordering station, where she’s donning a fork above the caption, ‘Finally, a jacket fit for a Queen.’”

Ozan Kulaksiz commented: “We’d like to thank KTM Design for capturing our values so effectively in the design of our first-ever restaurant. Our launch is just the beginning of our ambitious plans to introduce even more customers to the possibilities of the humble jacket potato, and we’re excited to see what the year brings for Kumpi.”
